Dear Aged Care Stakeholders

To mark an important step forward in the Government’s continued reform of the aged care sector, the Department of Social Services is inviting applications for the 2014 Aged Care Approvals Round.  The application period opened on 24 May 2014 and will close at 2pm Friday 4 July 2014.

The Government recognises that many older Australians wish to remain in their own home for as long as possible.  This ACAR increases the number of residential aged care places and home care places. In addition, to encourage greater investment in areas of need, funding is being made available for capital grants under the Rural, Regional and Other Special Needs Building Fund.

Applications are invited from new and existing Approved Providers for:

  • 9,330 residential aged care places;
  • 6,653 home care places to be delivered on a Consumer Directed Care basis; and
  • capital grants up to $103 million, which includes around $11.6 million to support access to residential aged care for older people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Application Forms, Essential Guide and Questions and Answers for the 2014 ACAR can be downloaded from the Department of Social Services website.

Applicants for the 2014 ACAR can obtain support by emailing ACAR: or; the HACC Service Provider Help Desk on 1800 057 616. The Help Desk is open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Applications can be mailed to or lodged in person at their relevant Department of Social Services state/territory office.  Alternatively, applicants may submit their application and associated attachments via e-mail.  For further details on submitting applications please refer to Section 1 of the 2014 ACAR Essential Guide.
