Residential aged care supplements, fees and charges along with the consumer contribution in home care have been increased from 20 March 2014 in line with changes to the basic age pension and CPI.

The Australian Government Residential Aged Care Supplements (Accommodation and Hotel related) have been indexed effective from 20 March 2014.

Schedule of Resident Fees and Charges

The Schedule of Resident Fees and Charges has been updated and will take effect from 20 March 2014.

The quarterly review of income tested fees will be conducted with an effective date of 20 March 2014. Residents and providers will shortly receive letters advising where there is a change to a resident’s income tested fee or where a refund may be due.

Mail addressed to residents should not be returned to the Department unless the resident no longer lives at the home.

Providers are advised that any refunds that may appear on your monthly claim statement from the Department of Human Services Medicare Australia should not be paid to residents or their estate until you have received written advice confirming that a refund may be due.

Consumer Contribution in Home Care Packages

A consumer can be asked to pay a contribution or fee for a Home Care Package. For a consumer receiving the Age Pension, the maximum fee which can be charged is 17.5% of the basic rate of the single pension. People on higher incomes may be asked to pay additional fees (limited to 50% of any income above the basic rate of single pension).

The maximum fee for Home Care Packages changes each March and September, in line with changes to the pension.

As at 20 March 2014, the maximum fee for a person on the basic rate of pension receiving a Home Care Package is $9.57 per day.
