A service that is determined to be newly built or significantly refurbished on or after 20 April 2012 is eligible to receive a higher accommodation supplement in respect of eligible residents.
The Significant Refurbishment Guidelines set out the process to seek a determination from the Secretary of the Department of Social Services that a residential care service is either newly built or significantly refurbished, and the criteria that must be met in order for the Secretary to make the determination.
The criteria are consistent with the definition of Significant Refurbishment of Residential Aged Care Services that was announced on 21 December 2012.
The Significant Refurbishment Guidelines have been developed to assist Approved Providers understand the eligibility requirements for the higher Accommodation Supplement, the application process and the documentary evidence that may be required.
2. How to provide input
Comments are sought on the implementation details of the Application Form and Guidelines, noting that the definition of Significant Refurbishment has previously been announced.
