Aged Care Sector Committee – Communique (4 March 2016)
The Aged Care Sector Committee (the Committee) held its ninth face to face meeting on Friday 4 March 2016.
Mr David Tune, AO PSM opened the meeting and advised the Honourable Sussan Ley MP, Minister for Health, Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Sport would be attending the meeting later in the day.
The Committee finalised the Aged Care Roadmap for submission to the Minister and publication on the Aged Care Sector Committee webpage. The intent of the Roadmap is to generate discussion across the aged care sector and government regarding future reforms to aged care.
The Committee was provided with an update on:
- the progress of legislation for Stage 1 of the Increasing Choice in Home Care Measure which was passed on 3 March 2016. The Committee was advised on the transition plan being developed by the department to support the changes;
- Aged Care Financing Instrument (ACFI) monitoring; and
- the Aged Care Financing Authority (ACFA) report to Government on the Factors Influencing the Financial Performance of Rural and Remote Providers. The Committee intends to have further discussion with the Minister on the outcomes of the report.
The Minister continued the discussion with members on their vision and ideas for future reforms to aged care and thoughts on the rural and remote issues and workforce. The Minister also congratulated the Committee on their work on the Aged Care Roadmap and it’s vision for the future of aged care.
The Department of Human Services also attended the meeting to provide an update to the Committee. Items for discussion included the online claiming processes and the ongoing work to improve communication products.
It is anticipated the Committee will next convene early in the 2016-17 financial year.
