My Aged Care Operational Update Tuesday 31 October 2017

This webinar provided an update on the operations of My Aged Care. It focused on key areas of interest to the sector, including the end to end home care package journey from a provider perspective:

  • key home care data
  • managing package processes including upgrades and withdrawals
  • accepting referrals and submitting entry information to support claiming of subsidies
  • combining and/or transferring clients between services

It also covered:

  • recent changes to My Aged Care for residential care providers to support more efficient processing of ACFI Reviews and Reconsiderations.
New ‘GEN - Aged Care Data’ website Thursday 24 August 2017

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare in collaboration with the Department of Health have developed the new GEN website, a comprehensive “one–stop shop” for data and information about aged care in Australia. It reports on capacity and activity in the aged care system focusing on the people, their care assessments and the services they use.

The webinar will focus on:

  • providing an overview of the GEN website
  • demonstrating the full functionality of the GEN website.

There will also be an opportunity for participants to submit questions.

WA HACC transition to the CHSP  Wednesday 13 September 2017 The webinar provided important information to prepare Western Australian (WA) Home and Community Care (HACC) service providers for the transition of services for older people to the Commonwealth Home Support Programme from 1 July 2018. http://livestream.education.gov.au/health/13september2017/
My Aged Care: Accelerated Design changes and improvements
Wednesday 21 June 2017 

The webinar provided details of Accelerated Design policy and system changes and improvements including those included in the 2017 mid-year system release.

The webinar focused on:

  • policy changes including changes to support access to My Aged Care for diverse needs clients and provided guidance to improve the consistency of assessment processes
  • 2017 mid-year system changes including improvements to tasks and notifications, how Support Plan Reviews are requested and managed, updates to the my Assessor app and other improvements
  • the new 2017 user interface for the My Aged Care portals.

Participants can ask the panel of representatives from the Department of Health questions during the presentation.

An Alternative Funding Model for Residential Aged Care Wednesday 17 May 2017 The department engaged the University of Wollongong to develop options and recommendations to help inform the design of future residential aged care funding models.

The webinar provided an opportunity for the University of Wollongong to present on their report. Topics included:

  • key findings
  • an outline of the five options presented in the report
  • an overview of the key features and building blocks of the University’s recommended option.

The webinar forms part of the government’s consultations with the sector on options for future residential aged care funding reform.

Home care reforms and ongoing improvements  15 May 2017 The webinar provided an update on the home care reforms and ongoing system and process improvements.

The webinar focused on:
  • an update on home care package activities – including the package release schedule, flow of referrals and using the provider portal
  • understanding the framework that Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACATs) apply to the package level and priority recommendations for home care packages
  • ongoing work associated with system and process improvements for the sector
Public Consultation on the Single Aged Care Quality Framework Wednesday 29 March 2017 This webinar focussed on two key parts of the Single Aged Care Quality Framework which are now open for comment:
  • a draft single set of quality standards for all aged care services and
  • options for a streamlined approach for assessing provider performance against these standards.

The closing date for submissions is Friday 21 April 2017.

Increasing Choice in Home Care embedding support 28 March 2017 The webinar focused on:


  • addressing sector concerns about the My Aged Care system and/or processes since the start of the reform
  • discussing technical fixes
  • the national prioritisation system and allocation of packages
  • myth-busting areas of confusion
  • An overview of the online claims system to support the home care reforms (presented by the Department of Human Services)

•    the CoS Programme
•    its framework 
•    working with the department
Data Exchange for CHSP Thursday 23 February 2017
This webinar focused on:
  • new CHSP Provider Report and how to access it
  • benefits of participating in the Partnership Approach
  • how to report on specific items, for example, client contribution fees, sessions involving carers, meals and transport.
Operational readiness for Increasing Choice in Home Care Wednesday 8 February 2017 The webinar offered advice to the sector – in particular providers - on final steps to take to ensure they are prepared for the Increasing Choice in home care reforms starting on 27 February 2017.

Topics included:

  • Administrative activities in the lead up to the reform – including migration of data for existing providers and provision of service information for new providers
  • Planned communications to home care clients after 27 February
  • Additional materials to support the sector with the changes.

Increasing Choice in Home Care – Operational Readiness Tuesday 6 December 2016 The webinar offered advice to the sector – in particular providers - on steps to take to ensure they are prepared for the Increasing Choice in home care reforms starting on 27 February 2017.

Topics Included:

  • a consolidated view of how the key changes will be put into operation in the lead up to 27 February and beyond.
  • an overview of steps the department has taken to prepare home care clients, Aged Care Assessment Teams(ACATs), the My Aged Care contact centre and providers about the changes
  • supporting materials developed to help the sector prepare.
Increasing Choice in Home Care - Service Finder functionality  Monday 21 November 2016     This webinar discussed the changes to the home care packages ‘Service Finder’ on My Aged Care.

Focusing on

  • understanding the new fields that will be available in the home care packages service finder from 27 February
  • navigating the ‘Service Finder’ using the new search parameters
  • navigating the ‘Service Finder’ to create a short-list of providers for comparison.
DHS webinar: aged care payment statements Tuesday 15 November 2016 This webinar provided an overview of the aged care payment process and covered the following topics:
  • introduction to the payment process
  • how to read a payment statement (residential and home care)
  • payment statement tips and tricks
  • questions and answers.

Increasing Choice in Home Care –
approved provider requirements and quality provisions
6 October 2016
This webinar outlined the changes to approved home care provider requirements and the associated quality provisions as a result of the Increasing Choice in home care reforms.

Additional information was also included on improvements that have been identified to the My Aged Care system as a result of co-design workshops.

National Prioritisation Process for Home Care Packages Thursday 11 August 2016 This webinar is the third in a series of webinars about the 27 February 2017 changes to home care focussing on operational elements of the national prioritisation process for home care packages. This webinar covered:
  • A refresher of the reforms being introduced.
  • An introduction to the national prioritisation process – how it will work and the ongoing management to support the assignment of home care packages
  • An understanding of what the changes mean for consumers and providers.

National Aged Care Workforce Census And Survey
