Page last updated: 22 February 2019

In the 2018-19 Budget, the Government announced that it will design and implement a new framework for streamlined consumer assessments for all aged care services, to be delivered by a new national assessment workforce from 2020.

The new streamlined assessment process will provide a better experience for senior Australians by ensuring timely access to the right services to meet their care needs.

Discussion paper

Stakeholder feedback was sought on a Streamlined Consumer Assessment Model from 10 December 2018 to 11 February 2019. The discussion paper is available for download on the Consultation Hub.

Model development process

Feedback received from stakeholders will inform the development of a streamlined consumer assessment model for aged care.

Following the consultation process, proposed implementation arrangements will be subject to Government agreement. In the meantime, assessment arrangements will continue to be funded and managed in line with existing arrangements.

Further information

The department will continue to communicate regularly with stakeholders on progress of the transition.
