Streamlined Consumer Assessment for Aged Care
In the 2018-19 Budget, the Government announced that it will design and implement a new framework for streamlined consumer assessments for all aged care services, to be delivered by a new national assessment workforce from 2020.
The new streamlined assessment process will provide a better experience for senior Australians by ensuring sooner access to the right services to meet their care needs.
The department released a discussion paper on 10 December 2018 to consult on a streamlined assessment model and seek the views of stakeholders and interested parties, including those representing consumers, assessment services, aged care providers and the health and aged care workforce.
The discussion paper is available for download on the Consultation Hub. An online survey is available for interested parties to provide feedback on key design elements to inform the development of a streamlined consumer assessment model for aged care.
Model development process
Feedback received from stakeholders will inform the development of a streamlined consumer assessment model for aged care.
Following the consultation process, proposed implementation arrangements will be subject to Government agreement. In the meantime, assessment arrangements will continue to be funded and managed in line with existing arrangements.
The department will continue to communicate regularly with stakeholders on progress of the transition.
