Aged Care Sector Committee – Communiqué – 1 December 2017
Professor John Pollaers, Chair of the Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce discussed the development of the industry driven aged care workforce strategy.
The Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health, met with committee members to highlight key work being done across the sector in relation to the Review of National Aged Care Quality Regulatory Processes, the Aged Care Legislated Review and the Aged Care Workforce Strategy. Minister Wyatt thanked members for their contributions throughout 2017 and noted the contribution of outgoing members Ms Netty Horton and Ms Lee Thomas during their appointment.
Committee members participated in a facilitated discussion on broader ageing issues and the implications for aged care issues.
The Department noted:
- the review of the Aged Care Funding Instrument report from Applied Aged Care Solutions was released by the Minister on 19 October 2017.
- the Australian Health Services Research Institute has been engaged to undertake the Resource Utilisation and Classification Study (RUCS) which will provide an evidence base to inform future decisions on residential aged care funding reform.
The next meeting is scheduled for the first quarter of 2018.
