Aged Care Sector Committee – Communiqué 7 December 2018

The Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP discussed with members the year’s progress in implementation of the Government’s aged care reform program and the focus on addressing the diverse needs of senior Australians.

Minister Wyatt discussed the importance of delivering aged care that meets the needs of culturally diverse, LGBTI and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander senior Australians. He acknowledged the work of the Aged Care Sector Committee (ACSC) in this area through the development of the Aged Care Diversity Framework action plans, which the Committee endorsed at the meeting.

Members discussed the ACSC’s traffic-light report on the Aged Care Roadmap which will be provided to Minister Wyatt for consideration.

The Department provided updates on:

  • the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety;
  • the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, which commences its work on 1 January 2019; and
  • implementation of the More Choices for a Longer Life 2018 Budget package measures. 

Updates were also provided by the ACSC Quality and Communication and Engagement sub-groups.

The next meeting is scheduled for 21 March 2019.
