Aged Care Sector Committee - Communiqué - 2 December 2016

The Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, opened the meeting by announcing the extension of the Committee for another three years. He acknowledged the achievements of the Committee so far and thanked members for their contributions.

The Chair of the Aged Care Legislated Review (the Review), Mr David Tune, AO PSM, discussed with the Committee the nine key matters of the Review and the timeline for the final report which will be completed by 1 August 2017. The Committee will be engaged throughout the development of the Review.

The Committee discussed the Roadmap, looking at the short-term actions that have been achieved and what will be considered under the Review. Areas the Committee would like to focus on are:

  • Access
  • Financial sustainability
  • Rural and remote
  • Communications
  • Diversity
  • Quality
  • Innovation.

The Department of Human Services attended the meeting and discussed how they were incorporating the 27 February 2017 changes into their system.

The Committee will be provided with a Statement of Expectation from Assistant Minister Wyatt, outlining the key areas he wishes the Committee to focus on in 2017. 

The next meeting will be in February 2017.
